The Sri Sampradaya Foundation is the first Hindu foundation in Switzerland. Our goal is to open and maintain the first Sri Vaishnava temple and an associated ashram.
The foundation, which is registered in the commercial register and tax-exempt in the canton of Bern, was founded on January 17, 2019. Its purpose is described in Article 3 of the foundation charter as follows:
"The foundation aims to live and promote the Hindu creed by practicing and teaching the teachings of the Sri Sampradaya Vaishnavas, one of the four Vishnuite schools of Hinduism. It is politically independent and its services are available to all interested parties. The foundation is a non-profit organization and does not seek to make a profit."
“Sri” is the name of the goddess Maha Lakshmi, the goddess of spiritual and material prosperity, beauty, and happiness.
“Sampradaya” means “tradition” and refers to the traditional lineage of an unbroken line of priests (Acharyas) from its foundation to the present day. Since the goddess Maha Lakshmi is the consort of the god Maha Vishnu, the Sri Sampradaya belongs to the Vaishnava traditional lineage. Therefore, we refer to ourselves as Vishnuites or Vaishnavas (from Sanskrit vaiṣnava, “belonging to Vishnu”).
To achieve our goal, we rely on donations and the help of volunteers.
